Recycling and Garbage
CITY OF
CHILDERSBURG
MANDATORY CURB-SIDE RECYCLING
In order to
comply with federal regulations to reduce the amount of waste going into
landfills, and cost of dumping fees at the landfill; the City initiated
a curb-side recycling program March 16, 1994. Since the closing of
the landfill at Odena, the City has not known what the dumping fee at the
landfill would be for the next 12 months.
The City
issued a blue 20 gallon container to use the curb-side recycling to each
household, should you not have one, please call 378-5521. The
container is large enough to hold four (4) paper shopping bags.
-
Bag #1 is
for newspapers, which are to be folded to one-fourth their over all
size so that they can be put into this bag. (If it is raining or
looks as if it will rain put this newspaper in the plastic bag or
hold it until the next week.)
-
Bag #3 is
for all aluminum items.
-
Bag #4 is
for small cardboard, it should be broken down and placed in this
bag. Large cardboard and large cardboard boxes can be placed
beside the blue container. Cardboard items found in the home:
brown paper bags, cake, cereal, medicine and toothpaste boxes and
cores (rollers) from tissue paper, paper towels, aluminum foil,
plastic wrap and waxed paper.
-
Magazine
and catalogs, either put in a large bag or tie and put next to the
blue container.
If your
garbage is picked up on Mondays and Thursdays, your recyclables will be
picked up every Monday. If your garbage is picked up on Tuesdays
and Fridays, your recyclables will be picked up every Tuesday.
Americans
have about one (1) ton of trash per person per year. Childersburg
has a population near 5,000, so we generate about 5,000 tons of trash
per year. Childersburg needs to reduce our garbage by 300 tons or
more per year. If you have any questions, please call City Hall at
378-5521 or your council member.
WORKING TOGETHER WE CAN REDUCE OUR TRASH BY 300 TONS OR MORE BY
RECYCLING. WE NEED TO SAVE LANDFILL SPACE FOR OUR CHILDREN AND
GRANDCHILDREN.
